During the fall of 2017, funds were raised to support the clinic and purchase an ultrasound. In November 2017, Sylvia self-supported a trip to Nicaragua to visit the clinic, deliver funds for the ultrasound and re-establish a Temple University medical student tropical medicine rotation on the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua. Because of the political situation in Nicaragua, we were not able to move forward with the medical student rotation.
In 2018, your donations enabled Dr. Karina Zepada to use the ultrasound to evaluate pregnancies, venous and arterial disease and diagnose abdominal symptoms.
In 2019, funds were raised to purchase a computer and printer for the clinic. The computer is used with the ultrasound and to update patient records, information and prescriptions. Whenever possible, medicines and equipment are purchased in Nicaragua.
In 2022, funds were raised to purchase and install air conditioning in the clinic. With frequent 100+F days in Managua, both the patients and clinic staff appreciate a more climate controlled environment.
In 2023, funds were raised to purchase and install solar panels.
